A law that requires police officers to document most of their investigative encounters with civilians, including information about age, race and gender, goes into effect Monday.

When the city council passed the law earlier this year, there was a lot of tension between the city’s legislative body and Mayor Adams.

But the council voted to override the veto, saying the law will make officers more accountable for their actions.
