Person shot in Lawrence; alleged gunman would have taken his own life: Prosecutor

One person was shot and another suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lawrence, Massachusetts on Thursday, Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker announced.

Police said the initial shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. outside 324 Prospect Street. The victim was said to have been taken to Lawrence General Hospital and was later flown by medical helicopter to Boston for further treatment.

The second shooting occurred near the first a short time later in a car parked outside 103 Summer Street, prosecutors said.

Authorities looking for the suspect in the first shooting said they found a person dead inside the car with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Witnesses told Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra that after hearing several gunshots, the attacker got into a vehicle and fled the scene, reaching a street where he took his own life.

“When I heard those shots… about seven shots I got scared, I went out to see what was happening and when I went out there was a lot of police,” said Margarita Salazar.

Alfredo Delgado, says he knew the victim, “yes… I got to see him I got to play dominoes with him by the way, a humble, very friendly man.”

Investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public.

The shootings are being investigated by members of the Essex County District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit and the Lawrence Police Department.

That is the information available at the moment.
