A former aide to the mayor of Miami was sentenced Monday to six years in federal prison after a teenager accused him of groping him at City Hall and proposing to have sex after sending him a lewd photo.

Federal prosecutors first charged René Pedrosa of attempted coercion and seduction of a minor to participate in sexual activities, production of child pornography, receipt of child pornography and attempted possession of child pornography, for which they also requested 15 years of probation once he is released from prison, indicated the media local.

The adolescent denounced that, as Pedrosa had kissed him and sexually touched at City Hall, sent him selfies from the bathroom on December 22, 2019, and Pedrosa invited him to his house for sex, according to the arrest report.

Pedrosa, a former local reporter for Spanish-language media outlets, was arrested on February 7, 2020, after investigators charged him with sending illicit text messages and sexually assaulting the underage victim.

In May, Pedrosa pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography as part of a plea deal. District Judge Robert N. Scola sentenced Pedrosa to 15 years of probation and ordered him to turn himself in Wednesday.
