Formula 1 World Cup |  Verstappen wins the Austrian Grand Prix

The Dutchman Max Verstappen increased his advantage at the helm of the Formula 1 World Championship by winning the Austrian Grand Prix, ninth in the championship, which was held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, in Styria, on Sunday.

max verstappenThe 25-year-old signed his forty-second victory in F1, his seventh so far this year, by winning again with great authority -setting the fastest lap on the last lap-, ahead of the Monegasque charles leclerc (Ferrari) and the other Red Bull, that of the Mexican Sergio Perez; that he starred in the comeback of the day, starting fifteenth and finishing third.

The Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished fourth and sixth, respectively. English Lando Norris (McLaren), between them, finished the race in fifth position.

Verstappen, who signed his fifth victory in a row, now leads the championship with 229 points, 81 more than Czech and with a hundred over the Asturian double world champion, who is third overall.

The two Mercedes drivers, the English lewis hamilton -seven times world champion- and George Russellfinished seventh and eighth, respectively.

The French Pierre Gasley (Alpine) finished ninth this Sunday at the Red Bull Ring, where Alonso’s teammate, the Canadian Lance Stroll the last point in play was scored by finishing tenth.

The next test, the British Grand Prix, will be held next weekend at the Silverstone circuit (England).
