The Province and the teachers unions met this Thursday to begin to define the first salary increase of the year and the Buenos Aires authorities presented a juicy proposal that, everything seems to indicate, would have been well received by educators. The offer includes an average increase of 40% to be applied in three tranches of the first semester of 2023 and a review clause in the event that accumulated inflation throughout that period exceeds the expected increase, for which reason a grade teacher could get to have a minimum wage of $165,000 as of July.

Just a few hours after the proposal was presented, it was now known how the new salary scales of the sector would be if the teachers decide to approve the proposal:

As stated in the document that was released, as of the new increase, a preceptor without seniority would earn just over $120,000 since March, $130,000 in May and just over $142,000 since July. Teachers who are just beginning grades, for their part, would earn $140,000 in March, $150,084 in May, and $165,000 from July.

In the highest positions, meanwhile, a director could collect, once the three sections of the salary increase have been applied, a total of $254,546 if he has more than 7, 8 or 9 years of seniority and $354,705 if he has 24 years or more of service; and an inspector, the highest category possible, up to $656,286 as long as they are 24 years old or older.

“The salary proposal made by the provincial State takes the month of February as the calculation base, raising the salary of the Initial Grade Teacher by 43.5 percent in three sections: March, May and July -with an impact on the basic level- so the retired teachers will receive the increase”, they explained in the Buenos Aires Teaching Unity Frontwhich brings together unions such as AMET, FEB, SADOP, SUTEBA and UDOCBA.

As reported 0221.com.arthe national government closed days ago an agreement to increase the 33.5% with teachers from all over the country (17.5% in March, 8% in May and another 8% in July) and raising the initial minimum wage to $130,000 starting in March. That agreement was a reference for negotiation in the province of Buenos Aires.

After the meeting, the unions will discuss the offer made by the Province with the teachers they represent. The parties will meet again on February 27.
