Frustration among G line users: partial service

In Court Square, G train passengers are preparing for a summer of partial service due to maintenance that the MTA considers essential to ensure the proper functioning of this line in the future.

This situation affects many users, especially those who depend on this line to travel between Queens and Brooklyn. Such is the case of Raquel Patiño, who lives in Corona and works cleaning apartments in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

“It would practically take me about an hour and a half more both way,” Raquel said.

This user, mother of two girls, and who suffered an injury to her right foot, says she will have to look for other alternatives.

“Try the bus and if it’s not the bus, try another line that would be the F train that connects me to the work I’m going to.”

MTA officials say repairs to the G train will lead to more frequent and reliable service for its 160,000 daily riders.

“It becomes difficult to pick up the children from school,” said Noel Torres.

“I couldn’t say anger, but frustration since it’s like 20 minutes I save or 30 minutes,” said another user.

This work includes replacing the 1930s-era signaling system, installing communications-based train control technology, known as CBTC, and renovating some stations.

The service will be suspended in three phases:

From June 28 to July 5, there will be no service between Court Square and Nassau Avenue.

From July 5 to August 12, a six-week closure, between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues.

From August 12 to September 3, there will be no service between Bedford-Nostrand Avenues and Church Avenue.

On Wednesday, MTA Executives introduced Hugo Zamora as the “G Train Czar,” the person who will be in charge of coordinating the project.

Among its functions is managing the deployment of temporary buses to help passengers travel.

“But we have to adapt to what is there,” said another user.

Even after these closures, there will be disruptions on the G line during nights and weekends through the middle of next year, according to the MTA.
