• Promotions at the point of sale have grown in importance.

  • Discounts can be a good strategy to attract customers and build loyalty.

  • There are many brands that apply this strategy.

The strategies that brands apply to attract consumers are increasingly common in all markets. A clear example is that of a gas station in the United States that asks customers to dance to obtain a discount on their products.

According to data from Hubspot, discounts can be a good strategy to attract customers, retain the ones you already have, and keep your products or services in continuous rotation, among other benefits.

In this sense, promotions at the point of sale have grown in importance as this is one of the places that correctly communicates the entire promotional concept that we want to convey.

Specialists emphasize that its duration should be for a limited time, so that customers have the need to purchase it before it expires, and reduce the time for them to analyze the product or compare with other items.

The creative strategy

Through a video The strategy being applied by a gas station in the United States was announced on social networks, going viral due to how creative it was and showing the importance of discounts at the point of sale.

It was revealed that the promotion was for customers to arrive dancing to earn a discount of 5 dollars on gasoline, which is equivalent to 95 Mexican pesos.

In the recording you can see how the users of the establishment accepted the challenge and brought out their dancing talent in the most creative way. The challenge was to receive approval by some judges, if so the discount would be 5 dollars and if they “loved it” less 10.

“Just for today, do a silly dance as you walk in and if we like it, -$5 in gas and if we love it -$10,” reads the sign the gas station put up at the store’s entrance.

In the viral recording you can see that in the first seconds two older men are seen dancing to get that discount. Next, a young man came in doing a little dance tour.

Also, many other consumers joined the dynamic diversity, with the aim of winning the prize. Likewise, Internet users did not take long to return the dynamics to a trend.

“That’s so cute,” read one comment.

“Honestly, this was amazing to see (…) sometimes you just don’t know how much, even with $5 or $10, you can bless someone,” read another comment.

“I would have given it to everyone for the effort honestly. Especially the one in the gray shirt and the woman in white,” said another Internet user.

“The lady was trying to get the whole tank,” read another comment.

It is not the first time that a store promotion has gone viral on networks because of how peculiar they are, let’s remember the discounts that bars, restaurants and stores offered to people who will arrive with a Casio watch, after the viral song by Shakira and Bizarrap .

In summary, promotions are exclusively a strategy that reactivates the sales of a product, to form part of a set of tools that brings the brand closer to the consumer, incorporating it as a consumption habit.
