George Clooney calls for Biden to withdraw from the race

WASHINGTON.- George Clooneythe famous Hollywood actor and veteran activist democratadded its voice today – July 10 – to the calls for President Joe Biden withdraw from the presidential campaign.

In an opinion piece in the New York Times, Clooney stressed that he is a supporter of Biden, but that the Democratic Party will lose the election and any chance of controlling Congress if Biden remains the nominee.

This is not just my opinion; it is the opinion of every congressman and governor I have spoken to privately, wrote Clooney, who has hosted several fundraisers, including one for Biden last month.

Clooney argued that the party should choose a new candidate at its convention next month, admitting that the process would be messy but saying it would rouse voters.

He mentioned other possible candidates such as Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Gov. Gavin Newsom of California.

George Clooney: He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020″

Clooney focused much of the article on Biden’s age, saying that at a recent event in Los Angeles he noticed differences in the 81-year-old president compared to years past.

“It’s devastating to say, but the Joe Biden I saw three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe Biden who uttered an expletive while celebrating the passage of a bill in 2010,” Clooney wrote. “He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all saw at the debate.”

Last month, Clooney, Julia Roberts and Barbra Streisand were among the celebrities at an event that raised a record-breaking more than $30 million for Biden, hoping to energize Democrats for an election they say could be among the most important in American history.

Many celebrities have stepped up to help Biden’s campaign. Even before the fundraiser, the campaign had sent out messages using Clooney’s name for what he called the fight of our lives.

Representatives for Clooney did not immediately respond to messages seeking further details, including when the actor made the decision or when he last spoke to Biden.

Biden has refused to drop out of the race despite widespread criticism of his poor performance in the debate against presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
