What is Blue Monday and what is its history?

The origin of Blue Monday It dates back to 2005 when psychologist Cliff Arnall worked on a formula to determine the worst day of the year, for an advertising campaign for a travel agency.

In the end he concluded that the most depressing day of the year would be the third Monday in January, given the Christmas excesses, the frustration at not being able to achieve New Year’s resolutions and also the lack of motivation. In that study he applied a series of formulas that have been highly criticized.

Although there is criticism for this discovery, the celebration is here to stay and now Blue Monday is a reality . Social networks and the media echo with messages of optimism to pass the bitter pill of that “sad day” and some brands also take the opportunity to offer discounts to lift people’s spirits. The literal translation Blue Monday, a faint color to signify sadness, so some propose that gray should have been selected.

Several scientists do not support or share the theory of the Saddest Day of the Year because they approach it as pseudoscience as it does not have a scientific method and no mathematical explanation. But here we see it in the holiday calendar for January 15 and Amazon offering its slivers of products. Perhaps when the years pass this “sad day” can be remembered as the day when the post-holiday depression passes.
