A seven-year-old girl from the UK has had emergency brain surgery after being head-butted by another child on a playground. Darcey Perring broke her skull just above her ear, had a brain bleed and even had the organ dislocated in the accident.

The case occurred in the city of Telford, 240 km from London, on January 12 of this year. Although none of the children had any apparent injuries, in the hours after the blow, Darcey began to complain of pain in her ear and said she couldn’t hear well. She didn’t want to stand up and vomited blood.

Imaging tests revealed that Darcey had a brain bleed and that the pressure from the blood pooling in her skull caused her brainstem – one of the parts of her brain – to move 3 centimeters. Doctors warned her parents that the girl could have died as a result of the accident.

Darcey was sedated and underwent a series of emergency surgeries. She recovered well from all the procedures and, after being discharged, created a campaign to raise money to donate to the hospital public in which he carried out his treatment.

In honor of the girl, who had her hair shaved for the procedures, her teacher decided to shave her own hair too to welcome her back to school.
