Goalkeeper injured by police gunshot in Brazil game

Scandal in Brazil after a football match. Specifically, after the second division match of the Goiano Championship between Grêmio Esportivo Anápolis and Centro Oeste due to a fight that ended in shots.

The match between Grêmio Esportivo Anápolis and Centro, played this Wednesday, July 10 at the Jonas Duarte Stadium (Brazil), ended with one player injured after being shot with a rubber bullet by a police officer from the Specialized Police Company (CPE).

At the final whistle, the two teams clashed and the police had to intervene to separate the players. At that point, One of the officers shot Ramón SouzaGrêmio goalkeeper, who was injured.

Given the seriousness of the situation, his teammates quickly tried to help him and called the medical services, who had to treat him on the pitch.

The shot caused a chilling and deep wound in his adductor muscle, but the player is out of danger.

After the incident, the goalkeeper’s club published a statement to denounce the serious altercation: “Gremio de Anápolis reaches out to the public to repudiate the regrettable, ridiculous and disgusting event at the Jonas Duarte Stadium, on the night of this Wednesday (10), for the twelfth round of the Promotion Division.”

In this statement, Grêmio Esportivo also denounced that its goalkeeper “was cowardly” shot by a police officer from the Specialized Police Company (CPE) and said that it is a “horrible, incredible and criminal act by someone who should value the safety and integrity of the people who were at the Jonas Duarte Stadium.”

Finally, he added that the club will appeal to the courts to punish what happened: “July 10th is marked by a violent, dirty and horrible act against one of our players, which will never be forgotten. The GEA informs that it will take the appropriate measures so that the person responsible is punished and justice is done, so that this criminal act does not go unpunished.”
