In line with the latest PlayStation Store data, direct from Great Britain comes yet another confirmation linked to the impressive growth of digital game market.

According to data released byWAS (Digital Entertainment and Retail Association), the 2022 would have marked a clear affirmation of digital in the country compared to the physical format. Specifically, the association declares that 89.5% of video game purchases made last year in Great Britain were made on digital stores. The retail sector, on the other hand, would have had a decidedly small share, equal to 10.5% of the total.

A trend that is constantly growing for several years now and to which the international health crisis has offered a last boost. For obvious reasons, the lockdown season has in fact encouraged the transition to the digital market even by consumers traditionally more fond of the physical format. The decline in the video game retail market therefore reaches a significant manifestation in Great Britain, where digital has touched the record of 90%.

Overall, reports the BBC, the British video game market in 2022 reached an overall value equal – obviously according to the most recent estimates – to approximately £4.7 billion. The figure puts the country’s gaming sector ahead of other entertainment genres, such as music, film and TV.
