Google and Universal come together to develop a tool that allows you to create songs with AI

MADRID, (Portaltic/EP). – Google and Universal Music teamed up to develop a tool that allows legitimate songs to be created with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and for these users to compensate their creators for copyright, according to the Financial Times.

In recent months, this record label has expressed its concern that this technology violates the ‘copyright’ of the content of its catalog and this was made known to Spotify and Apple last April.

Then, he pointed out that certain AI systems “could have been trained with content protected by copyright” without obtaining the necessary consents or paying financial compensation to the creators of said works.

Universal Music would have joined Google to develop a solution to the rise of generative AI, with the aim that users can legitimately create songs with this tool and, in turn, give back to the composers and artists of these works . That is, that the original creators charge for their copyrights for, for example, using their voices in these new AI-generated songs.

This was confirmed by sources close to the companies to the Financial Times, who have qualified that the launch of this content monetization tool is not imminent and that development has not yet begun.

This solution would limit actions like the one Spotify carried out last May, when it removed “tens of thousands” of AI-generated songs after Universal Music alerted of strange behavior in the playback of these songs.

It’s worth remembering that AI music creation has also sparked interest from companies like Meta, which has developed an AI model called MusicGen that can generate works from short text descriptions and melodies.

A few days ago, he also unveiled AudioCraft, a generative AI function that includes MusicGen, as well as AudioGen and EnCodec and serves to generate audio from raw signals.
