Google's nod and tribute to the Malaga spit, "the taste of summer"

The engineers and designers in charge of preparing the ‘doodles’ of the almighty Google have decided to wink this Monday June 12 as a tribute to the traditional, popular and tasty skewer from Malaga. This dish, typical of the Malaga coast -although it is also typical of the Granada and Almeria coasts-, appears in the search engine in an image made by hand with clay with the clear intention of celebrating “the flavor” of summer. “A salty and smoky aroma in the South of Spain can only mean one thing: it is season for skewers,” explains the search engine.

The ‘doodle’ with an accent from Malaga has not gone unnoticed by users who love this fish, usually strung on thin, long rods that is cooked to perfection thanks to the embers that burn on the sand on the beach, near the breakwater.

The man from Malaga, Bernardo Quintero, founder of the VirusTotal company, has been one of the first to share such a significant gesture on the part of Google towards Malaga and its gastronomy. “Today, Monday, June 12, Google pays tribute to the skewer from Malaga ♥”, said the businessman who has also revealed why it is celebrated on this date and how it was made.

Google remembers that the espeto, a hallmark of Malaga, takes its name precisely from the Spanish word espetar, which means “to skewer”. Normally sardines are spit out, although other types of fish such as sea bream, sea bass or even squid are also browned on the fire. The search engine also points out that the skewers are better eaten in months without an ‘R’ in their name and never on a Monday, a day of rest at the fishmongers.

And in case there is any doubt about the preparation of this dish, Google is in charge of clearing up doubts: the espeteros place several sardines on the skewer, season it with salt and, after roasting them over the fire, sprinkle them with a few drops of lemon.

The goal of the doodle selection process is to “commemorate interesting anniversaries and events that reflect Google’s personality and passion for innovation,” the company explains.
