The tug takes place in collaboration with the county administrative board and the goal of the project is to be able to contribute to a healthier Baltic Sea. The work will be carried out in 2023 by professional fishermen on five Gotland fishing boats.
– The bottom conditions off the coast of Gotland are sometimes difficult with a lot of rock that the trawlers easily get stuck in. All participating fishermen in this project have previous experience with trawling and will be able to contribute with important skills, says Andreas Pettersson, county fisheries consultant at the County Board of Gotland County, in a press release.
A similar effort was carried out east of Gotland in 2021. In the same year, divers also dived for ghost nets at Öresund. See more about it in the clip below:
