Governor DeSantis and Governor Newsom would face each other in a debate next November

Florida Gov. and 2024 Republican contender Ron DeSantis has accepted a challenge to publicly debate California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, tentatively scheduled for November. Both rulers began a series of tensions after DeSantis and Texas Governor Greg Abbott began sending migrants to the state of California without prior notice.

During the first days of the dispute, the California prosecutor, Rob Bonta, asked the Florida authorities for public records related to the transfer of several groups of immigrants on a plane from El Paso, Texas to the city of Sacramento, California, to initiate an investigation into this fact. According to the Florida authorities, this shipment was completely consensual with the immigrants.

Now this week, in an interview, the governor of Florida, whose campaign for the Republican primary started very strong, but has lost steam and is more than 30 points behind former President Donald Trump, the clear favorite despite his problems with the law, said “yes” to the debate with Newsom.

So far, there is no date for the meeting, but a spokesman for Newsom said the Californian governor proposed to Governor DeSantis on November 8 or 10 in the letter with the formal proposal.

Texas and Florida don’t stop

Amelia Johnson, spokeswoman for the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) stressed that the relocation of immigrants to California was voluntary. “As you can see in this video, Florida voluntary relocation is just that: voluntary. Through verbal and written consent, these volunteers indicated that they wanted to go to California.Johnson said in a statement.

In June, Governor Abbott said that “the border towns of Texas continue to be overwhelmed and invaded by thousands of people who cross irregularly from Mexico”, so the questioned actions of taking migrants to Democratic states will continue to be carried out.

Even Abbott bragged Tuesday that he had expelled 28,000 immigrants from the southern border of Texas to what he calls sanctuary cities in other states.. Abbott promised on Twitter that his expulsion policy would continue until President Joe Biden secures the US border.

While DeSantis enacted SB1718, one of the strongest immigration measures ever issued in the southern state, which has a sizeable immigrant population.
