This is new to the Grammys

So far, the coveted music prize has been awarded for 86 categories. The Grammys in the four main categories are awarded across genres. These are:

  • single of the year
  • album of the year
  • song of the year
  • Best New Artist

This year there will be 91 different Grammy categories. The new territories to be honored beginning in 2023 are: Non-Classical Songwriter of the Year, Best Americana Performance, Best Alternative Performance, Best Composed Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media, and Best Poetry Recital Album”.

How does a musician get nominated for a Grammy?

Every musician who wants to qualify in one of the 91 categories submits their work within the year.

After the song or album has been sorted into one of the categories, the voting members are sent the lists. They can vote in the four main categories and in nine other (out of 30 total) fields on their ballot.

After that, the works that received the most votes in each category are officially nominated.

Who decides who wins a Grammy?

At the “Golden Globe Awards”, journalists decide who “Oscars” the former winners. Who decides who awards the Grammys? Musicians operating in the US: producers, instrumentalists, DJs, vocalists. Music professionals of all kinds.

As soon as the nominations are officially confirmed, the members have the choice again: they vote in the four main categories and in another nine of 30 possible fields. Members are asked to stick to their expertise, but this is not mandatory.

Who’s performing at the 2023 Grammys?

The Grammy Awards show is also known for its performances. Being on the Grammy stage is a great honor for the performers. Who’s in this year?

Mary J. Blige, who has been nominated six times (in two major categories) at this year’s Grammy Awards, will perform.
