The data support estimates that this year as a whole there will be approximately 35 million foreign visitors, and tourism revenues will exceed 20 billion euros, surpassing the previous record level of 18.17 billion euros set in 2019.

According to data published by the Central Bank of Greece, in the first seven months of this year tourism revenues rose by 13.21%, to 10.321 billion euros, compared to 9.116 billion euros in the same period of 2019, the last year before the pandemic.

Solid demand for autumn holidays from countries such as Germany and the UK has led TUI AG, Europe’s largest travel agency, to expand its operations in the Greek state until November, adding more than 30,000 places on flights from Great Britain to Greece and Turkey.

According to a recently published study, the Central Bank of Greece estimates this year tourism revenues of 21 billion euros, an advance of 15.6% compared to 2019 (when revenues were 18.17 billion euros) and of 19.1% compared to 2022 (when revenues of 17.63 billion euros were achieved).

The higher prices this year slightly compensated for the decline in the number of nights spent in tourist accommodation units. (Agerpress)
