City only draw in Leipzig
Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by RB Leipzig in yesterday’s Champions League round of 16 first leg. Josko Gvardiol scored the final score when he steadied himself slightly from Rúben Dias after a corner and then headed in – an effort worthy of discussion. The Daily Express captioned a photo of the relevant scene: “The equalizing goal upsets City”. To the astonishment of many, Pep Guardiola, coach of the Skyblues, did not make any changes, which caused plenty of conversation after the game. The clubs took a back seat. “It ends Guardiola 1, Gvardiol 1”is the headline of the ‘Mirror’.
Giant meeting 2.0 in the Europa League
In the Europa League, meanwhile, there is a second leg between Manchester United and FC Barcelona (9 p.m.). A week ago there was a 2-2 at Camp Nou. The defenses should again focus their attention on top strikers Marcus Rashford and Robert Lewandowski. The ‘Mundo Deportivo’ shows both actors on its front page, above it is written “Titanic”. For the ‘Sport’ it is “The Duel of Truth”. One thing is certain: one of the competition’s favorites has to give up tonight.
Lukaku brings victory
Inter Milan has equaled AC Milan and SSC Napoli. All three Italian clubs won the first leg of the round of 16 in the top flight. The Nerazzurri beat FC Porto 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Romelu Lukaku. The ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ writes: “Lukaku puts Inter on track”. The cover of the ‘Corriere dello Sport’ depicts the goalscorer Lukaku and his assist provider Nicolò Barella, along with the title “Inter’s Hug”.
