Reports about the scuffle between the two Windsor rungs have been making the rounds in the international press since Thursday, according to the Guardian, the dispute is said to have occurred in 2019. William is said to have pushed him to the ground in the kitchen of his London apartment, Harry writes in his autobiography.
The reason for the – initially verbal – argument was differences about Harry’s marriage to the American actress Meghan Markle, now Duchess of Sussex, in 2018. William described Harry’s wife as “difficult”, “rude” and “rough” during the argument.
“I landed on the dog bowl”
The British daily quoted the book, which is due out on Tuesday, as saying: “He grabbed my collar, tearing my necklace, and pushed me to the ground. I landed on the dog bowl, which broke under my back so the shards cut me.”
The autobiography bears the German title “Reserve” (English “Spare”). During the argument, William asked him to fight back, according to the Guardian, just as they would have fought in childhood days.
“You don’t have to tell Meg that”
Harry then asked his brother to leave. William, Prince of Wales and number one in line to the British throne, has apologized. As he walked, he turned around and said: “You don’t need to tell Meg that.” When Harry asked if he meant the attack, William (born in 1982), two years his senior, replied: “I didn’t attack you, Harold .”
Harry didn’t tell his wife about the conflict at first, in which she was obviously not present. Only later, when she discovered scratches on his neck, according to the Guardian, did he describe the incident to her. She was not angry and hardly surprised. “She was terribly sad.”

The autobiography, which according to The Guardian may cause some uproar in the royal family after its release, is due to be published next week. Despite the strictest secrecy, the British daily newspaper received a copy of it.
The book got its title (“Reserve”) from an old “wisdom” in aristocratic circles. This states that the first son is heir to title and power, and the second is the “reserve” should anything happen to the firstborn.
Retirement from royal duties
Harry, born in 1984, and Meghan, born in 1981, officially retired from their royal duties in March 2020. They live in Meghan’s native California with their two children, Archie, three and a half, and Lilibet, one and a half. The couple had already made allegations against the royal family in a Netflix docuseries that aired in December.
