The TV series based on The Last of Us has become hugely popular, with various viewing records for HBO. After only two episodes, the company has now announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that the series will get another season.

– I feel honored and overwhelmed that so many people have followed and enjoyed our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our fantastic cast and the people behind the camera and HBO have exceeded my already high expectations. Now we’re excited to have the opportunity to do it again with season two,” series creator and Naughty Dog CEO Neil Druckmann said in a statement.

The article continues below the Twitter message.

Exactly how the second season will unfold is currently unclear. What we do know is that it will deal with the events of The Last of Us Part II, the 2020 sequel.

– I am so grateful to Neil Druckmann and HBO for our collaboration, and I am even more grateful to all the millions of people who have joined us on this adventure. Viewers have given us the chance to continue, and as a fan of the characters and the world that Neil and Naughty Dog created, I’m really excited to get going again,” said Mazin.

The first The Last of Us season received very good reviews from reviewers. Our own Espen Jansen enjoyed himself through the nine episodes, and rolled an eight on the dice in his review of the series.

– HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us is a down-to-earth and solid version of Naughty Dog’s critically acclaimed action adventure. The series is extremely faithful to the source material, but at the same time offers enough new things along the way that this is a journey worth embarking on, even for those who have played the game before.
