Last Sunday the first episode of The Last of Us series was released by HBO Max and it quickly became the most acclaimed video game adaptation we’ve ever seen, staying so faithful to the source material. Although House of the Dragon is still the biggest premiere the HBO Max platform has had, the The Last of Us series it could surpass it in some regions.

The present day CNN Brazil revealed the The Last of Us series had the best HBO Max debut in Latin America, surpassing that of House of the Dragon and that of the second season of Euphoria. Although exact figures on the number of viewers that the first episode of the series had have not been revealed, without a doubt The Last of Us is already a great success for HBO and playstation productions.

The Last of Us began as a video game developed by Naughty Dog that came to PlayStation 3 in 2013, had a remaster for PS4 in 2014 and a remake for PS5 in 2022. Its sequel The Last of Us Part II arrived in 2020 and it is one of the most acclaimed PlayStation exclusives, so there was a lot of expectation for the HBO series.

The Last of Us games were directed and written by Neil Druckmann, who currently serves as co-president of Naughty Dog. Druckmann is also a producer and writer on the series along with Craig Mazin, who himself was a fan of the series before working on the project.

The next episode of The Last of Us series premieres this Sunday and is the episode directed by Neil Druckmann, who recently spoke about the differences between directing a video game and a TV episode. We hope to see more scenes from the game recreated in The Last of Us series, whose first season will end in March.

With the success that The Last of Us series has had in its first episode, we can expect a second season to be announced soon, since last month it was said that it could adapt the events of the sequel, The Last of Us Part II.
