When we love we do not count. A proverb that takes on its full meaning when reading this news item. A Dutchman, Rick Pratjé, went to see the film Avatar 2 100 times at the cinema. An initiative that allowed him to collect two awards.

Summary

  • “I keep discovering new details”
  • 100 times the same film at the cinema? Far from being a record

“I keep discovering new details”

Released on December 14 at the cinema, Avatar 2 mobilized spectators in cinemas. As far as France is concerned, 12 million admissions were counted at the end of January, propelling it to 21st place of the most viewed films in France. It is still behind the figures achieved by the first episode, released in 2009, with 15.3 million admissions. Nothing to be jealous of that said, since Avatar 2 manages to seduce more than reason it would seem. Witness the initiative of Rick Pratjé, a Dutchman from Tilburg who wanted to watch the film 50 times beforehand. A challenge that quickly transformed:

I immediately thought that Avatar: The Waterway was a great movie and I saw it 20 times in no time. From there, the challenge was imposed to see this film 50 times and finally 100 times. And I keep discovering new details.

According to information from the Dutch Press Agency, Rick Pratjé received a message from James Cameron during his hundredth viewing. The story does not say what the nature of the message was but it is assumed that it received the director’s warm thanks.

100 times the same film at the cinema? Far from being a record

However, this is not the only gift received since he was given a certificate attesting to his 100 viewings. The film lasts 3h12, it is 13 days and 8 whole hours that he devoted to the last film of James Cameron. Enormous figures which are however far from the records currently in place in the world. If the Frenchman Arnaud Klein had entered the Book of Records for watching 204 times the film Kaamelott (whose director Alexandre Astier congratulated him by accompanying him to one of the sessions), he was then dethroned in 2021 by Ramiro Alanis: this American went to see Spider-Man: No Way Home 292 times .

In any case, we can say that these spectators will have largely contributed to the relative success of these works even if concerning Rick Pratjé, his effort seems to be a drop of water in the ocean of tickets generated by Avatar 2 with its two billion dollars in revenue. The appointment is made for the third and fourth episode.
