Game News Hesitating to buy Sonic Frontiers? A solution offered on Nintendo Switch
Released on November 8, 2022, Sonic Frontiers was somewhat overshadowed by God of War Ragnarok, released the next day. However, it has not been swept under the rug, and its reception has been rather positive despite many fears. If you are a fan of the blue hedgehog and you are still hesitating, there is a solution.
Sonic Frontiers reinvents the franchise, for the better?
Produced by the Sonic Team, Sonic Frontiers lays the foundations for a total reorientation of the SEGA license. More than 30 years after its creation, the blue hedgehog sees its adventures reinvented in a new form. The developers have indeed chosen the open areas, a mix between open world and more classic game areas, which offers plenty of space, freedom and activities. The result divided gamers and critics but, overall, reception has been positive, seeing in Sonic Frontiers a good basis for the future of the franchise.
It will be necessary to improve the technical mastery of such an approach, to vary the objectives, to rethink an “RPG” approach which is still a little clumsy, but the catastrophe announced here and there has not taken place. The success was even there, with 2.5 million copies sold in the month following the launch. This total seems low when you think of other blockbusters, but it’s a very good start for a title that rethinks the Sonic franchise, and for a license that must conquer a new audience. Second in the public vote rankings at the Game Awards and credited with the best start to a Sonic game on Steam, Sonic Frontiers remains difficult to understand until you get your hands on it.
The Nintendo Switch demo available everywhere
Sega understood this well, and offered Japanese players to download a demo from the Nintendo Switch eShop. A demo that was retrievable by creating a Japanese profile on the console, but was not officially available worldwide. Since this weekend, things have changed since the demo is now available worldwidewithout players having to log into the Japanese eShop.
Weighing 2.9 GB, this demo of Sonic Frontiers allows players to experience the starting area of the game for 15 minutes. It’s short, but it allows you to take the blue hedgehog in hand, to discover this new approach, and to check if the rendering does not put off before going to checkout. If you like the game, know that the adventure will not be limited to what it offers for the moment, because SEGA detailed a whole roadmapsplit into three big updates free.
There will be a jukebox, a photo mode, new challenges, an event dedicated to Sonic’s birthday, an “Open Zone” challenge, new races, new stories and new characters ! Suffice to say that there will be enough to extend the experience without spending additional euros, pending a possible sequel. Nothing has been announced yet, but SEGA has announced that the year 2023 would be very important for the franchise.
