Boston Councilwoman Kendra Lara could face moving violation charges after she was involved in a vehicular crash Friday afternoon in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
Boston police revealed that the officer had been driving with a revoked driver’s license and with her 7-year-old son not secured in a child seat.
Authorities said that no serious injuries were reported, but councilwoman Lara’s son reportedly suffered a wound to his eyebrow and had to receive stitches. As for the damage, the car collapsed a fence and left marks on the grass.
Jose Antonio Rodriguez, a witness to the accident, says that “the car came from here like this and got in, hit the gate and the mountain, I don’t know if she got out of control, jumped over the sidewalk and hit the gate and He himself went to the sticks that were there, sent them to the floor and hit the house”.
Rodriguez says that it was after 3 p.m. on Friday when he was walking to the pharmacy and saw how the car that was supposedly driven by councilwoman Lara took everything in its path until it crashed into a house located on Center St.
“I was coming from the other side when I saw that she was coming, but she was coming pretty fast and that’s when she hit her,” Rodríguez said.
According to the police report, the driver of the car crashed into the house when she was trying to avoid a collision with another car and was unable to hit the brakes fast enough. In a statement, Councilwoman Lara’s office said this “was a frightening situation for everyone involved, but fortunately Councilwoman Lara and her son Zaire are expected to make a full recovery. She asks for privacy at this time.”
Lara has not been arrested and has the opportunity to request a hearing before a magistrate at West Roxbury court in the coming days, where she could be arraigned.
