You can laboriously type long IBANs on paper bills – or simply point the iPhone camera at them. Text recognition is on board Apple devices: With our tips on “Live text” you can pay bills at top speed, add events printed on paper directly to the calendar and have signs translated abroad. With a little trick, you can also copy any digital text from apps and websites and read QR codes directly into PDFs.
Live text: system requirements and turn off
Live text works on all iPhones from year 2018 (iPhone XR and XS) and from iOS 15. Additional functions such as converting currencies and recognizing text in videos require iOS 16. On the iPad side is an iPad 9, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 5 or newer required. On the iPad Pro, Live Text works on all models built since 2018.
Apple does not specify any specific hardware requirements for MacBooks and desktop Macs, but it must run at least macOS 12 Monterey. Some advanced features like quick actions and video still image detection are on board from macOS 13 Ventura.
