Sometimes you wish for a few more SATA ports for additional hard drives or SSDs in the PC. If there is still space in the case and the power supply provides enough power, there is hardly anything to be said against it. Having many SATA ports is also interesting for a DIY NAS or a home server.

For this test, we got PCIe expansion cards with two, four, six, and ten SATA ports. There are also cards with up to 20 SATA connections, but we left them out – standard PC cases are simply too small for that.

The two-port M.2 adapter MZHOU 2SATA M.2, the four-port Delock 90382 card, the six-port card 10Gtek PCIe SATA X4 Card and the two ten-port MZHOU PCI-E SATA were tested Expansion card and Startech PCIe SATA controller card – 10 port. All are inexpensive no-name cards, only the Delock and Startech brands are likely to be a little better known. The reason: We wanted to know whether you can save yourself additional expenses for expensive branded products, because the chips used on the cards are more important than the name of the manufacturer.
