There was a break for a week. From Monday, the climate activists of the “last generation” in Berlin want to block streets again. Based on the data from the police for the first weeks of sticking at the end of April and the beginning of May, the Tagesspiegel was able to evaluate where blockages are most likely.

According to their own statements, the “Last Generation” wanted to use the past week with two protest marches to “integrate” new comrades-in-arms, as spokeswoman Carla Hinrichs said. There were further trainings and lectures. The climate activists had announced that they wanted to bring Berlin to a standstill and paralyze it from the last week of April.

The police recorded the blockades of the sticking weeks at the end of April and beginning of May. In the last week of April there were 89 locations, in the first week of May there were 45 – a total of 134 blockades. The data shows where new blockades can be expected in Berlin from Monday.

One thing is already clear: the A100 city motorway is very popular with climate activists. An ambulance was stuck there during a traffic jam and had to stop the operation, another car had to go.

Most of the blockade points on the A100 are in Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. This is one of the reasons why City West is the central hotspot for adhesive campaigns. It is advisable to avoid these areas by car.

Because the police have been able to get the blockades under control very quickly since April and have mostly been able to clear them quickly, the climate activists have developed new strategies. And they could get really expensive for them. For drivers, the new methods mean that they have to stand in traffic jams longer.

The activists use a new glue-sand mixture. With this method, the police can no longer simply loosen their hands with cooking oil. Instead, the piece of asphalt on which the hand is stuck is then cut out. The road must then be repaired. Or the activists block the city freeway with rental cars and then stick themselves to the sharing car.

If you don’t want to go from the north via the east, but via the west to Mitte and the A100, you have to go through Wedding. There the climate activists have identified a neuralgic point.

The Frankfurter Allee Magistrale has also been chosen by the climate activists as a new adhesive hotspot. There, car traffic runs centrally from east to west.

In general, the east of the city is now more affected than before. Car traffic from Treptow in the direction of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain is tormenting from the south-east. There were frequent blockages at the central eye of the needle at Treptower Park.

Anyone who has made it to Mitte by car must be prepared for further blockages there.

In Neukölln, too, it was blocked a few times.

Berlin is wondering: are the climate activists of the “last generation” going to continue? The answer is yes. Spokesperson Hinrichs, who lives in Berlin, was sentenced again on Thursday in Frankfurt/Main for a blockade. This time not with a fine, but with a suspended sentence: two months in prison, suspended for three years. Hinrichs announced that he wanted to continue.

In the meantime, it has prevailed in Berlin courts that the blockades are classified as a criminal offense – mostly as coercion, there have even been severe sentences. However, the district court has only decided in a few cases and the court of appeal has not yet decided in any case.
