The great success achieved by the first season convinced HBO to renew House of the Dragon, spinoff / prequel of Game of Thrones, for a second. Work has already begun, but a precise launch window has not yet been announced. To tease the fans, Casey Bloys, CEO content of HBO and HBO Max, thought about it, assuming a release in the summer of 2024.
Will House of the Dragon 2 arrive in 2024?
I don’t think the second season will be eligible for the 2024 Emmys. We are currently working on several Game of Thrones shows and, obviously, the process takes a long time. I’m not against the amount of TV series in development. There’s probably a natural limit to the number of fans who want them, but I’m open to suggestions, as long as they’re good scripts and good series.
Considering how the Emmy admission period ends on May 31, 2024, it is very probable that the new season can only arrive in the summer. House of the Dragonbased on the novel Fire and Blood, is set 200 years before the events narrated in Game of Thrones. The series follows the Targaryen civil war between siblings Ageon II and Rhaenyra, who fought for the throne after the death of their father Viserys I. The season 1 premiere, released in August of last year, has been watched by over 20 million viewers, setting a record for HBO.
Among the protagonists of House of the Dragon we find Paddy Considine in the role of King Viserys I Targaryen and Matt Smith in those of the prince Daemon Targaryen. Rounding out the cast are Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon.
