What does Apple Care+ actually offer?
Both insurance companies offer (as of January 2023) an unlimited number of repairs for an additional fee. There is also an express exchange service. If you go to an Apple Store on site, you will in many cases be given a replacement device right away. Otherwise, you can have a replacement device sent to you and send the defective device back at the same time. In concrete terms, this means that you can always hand in a damaged iPhone and get a new or refurbished iPhone back. The additional fee depends on the type of damage:

The additional charge for the extra insurance in the event of theft or loss is 129 euros.
But now it is the case that you have to decide when you buy a new Apple product or Apple Care+ up to 60 days after the purchase. Alternatively, you can also insure a used device if the previous owner already has an active Apple Care contract. In addition, you can now get the insurance for longer than two years, but you have to be active yourself. In the following, we explain how this works using examples. You can make some things yourself, for other changes it is best to contact the Apple support.
Transfer existing Apple Care+ contract to someone else
If you buy a used Apple device from someone who has Apple Care, you can usually cover the insurance. Usually means: Apple can also reject it. Unfortunately, the takeover does not happen automatically, you have to ask the seller to have the plan transferred. The old owner reports on “my support” to change the details of the device and the associated Apple ID. The easiest way to do this is with the Apple Supports. If you take over a device from the family (important: family members must be connected via Family Sharing), it’s easier, then you don’t need help from Apple Support.
There is one exception: If you use Apple Care with a monthly payment, the contract is linked to an Apple ID and is not transferable. Apple Support can also help in these cases.
Renew Apple Care after two years
For example, if you signed a two-year contract when you bought an iPhone, you can extend the insurance when it expires. However, this is only possible on the day after the expiry date of the contract. This data can be found via the settings app ? General ? Info or on the web at checkcoverage.apple.com/de/de.
The Apple Care status can be checked with just a few clicks
The expiration date is displayed there. Alternatively, you can see there immediately whether a contract has expired and you can extend it. Apple will let you sign up for an AppleCare+ subscription again within a short transition period.
If an extension is possible, Apple will check the device with a short remote diagnosis. To do this, you must follow the instructions on the device.
Diagnostics before completion is not required in all cases and is not performed at all for an Apple Watch, for example. During the diagnosis, the iPhone cannot be used for a short time and an internet connection is required. The check is usually completed within a few minutes. Apple then announces the successful test and then offers to conclude a new contract.
If you choose to pay monthly, you can cancel at any time. There is no minimum contract period, which is useful if you want to resell your iPhone after six months, for example. Otherwise, Care+ will automatically be renewed every month as long as you continue to pay. When monthly payments stop, coverage is canceled and cannot be reactivated.
