During this season of summer, food is more prone to spoilage or spoilage due to high temperatures. These favor the growth of microorganisms, capable of generating diseases or stomach infections. Likewise, there are foods with which you should be even more careful, for example, mayonnaise, chicken, dairy products or eggs, since salmonella is one of its associated bacteria, one of the most common infections at this time of year.

In that sense, LG Peru specialistsprovides 5 recommendations to preserve food in the best way:

Take advantage of the use of the refrigerator. Avoid leaving food out in the open for more than two hours, since as time passes, bacteria can multiply up to twice as fast. It is recommended that the freezer be at a temperature of -18°C and the refrigerator, between 2°C to 7°C, depending on the amount of food you have inside. This will make the reproduction of bacteria much slower.

Plan the purchases. Buy weekly or just what is necessary. Some vegetables can decompose in less than 3 days and, to avoid throwing them away, it is recommended to plan the dishes and ingredients to prepare during the week. When you get home, you can separate them into various glass containers and put the date of purchase or expiration.

Apply conservation methods. If you have a large number of fruits, for example, you can choose to dehydrate them through a microwave or air fryer. Likewise, there are other techniques, such as vacuum packaging, which stops the multiplication of germs; the use of additives, such as vitamin C -or lemon juice-, which prevents the chemical degradation of the food; or, in the case of fruits, make a jam, which will prolong its life time.

Avoid prepared foods. If you go for a walk or to a meeting and want to bring cooked food, you should be more careful since microorganisms grow faster in them. In this case, it is best to choose packaged foods, which have less risk of vinegar. Regarding drinks, those that contain a high amount of sugar or citrus fruits have a greater tendency to ferment, so you can opt for natural infusions or packaged soft drinks.

Avoid cross contamination. The organization of food in the refrigerator is crucial to prevent the proliferation of bacteria. When making a purchase, the first thing to do is refrigerate the food. However, the coldest area, the upper level, is ideal for ready meals, yogurt, milk or sausages. In the middle area you can place all raw, packaged and/or properly sealed foods. Finally, in the lower area, it is recommended to locate fruits and vegetables. In addition, various refrigerators have special drawers for them. For example, the FRESH Balancer of the LG LS66SXT model, keeps vegetables and fruits fresh for longer or the Moist Balance Crisper maintains humidity at an optimal level.
