Francisco Montero could have joined other clubs instead of Hamburger SV in the winter. In an interview with ‘Relevo’, the 24-year-old says: “When my agent told me about Hamburg’s interest, I didn’t think twice. I had more opportunities, but I spoke to the coach and he convinced me of the project.”

The fact that he swapped the Turkish Süper Lig for the second Bundesliga doesn’t bother the centre-back either: “Is that the second German league? Yes, but this is football. One year you are at the top, the next at the bottom.” The Red Pants have loaned the Spanish centre-back from Besiktas for the remainder of the season, with no word on a possible purchase option.
