Made available on the global market this Tuesday (9), the Huawei P60 Pro already had the main camera set evaluated by the team of engineers from the DXOMARK, showing excellent results. Scoring 156 points in the ranking of the specialized portal, the release surpassed the rival OPPO Find X6 Pro and took the first place, becoming the best smartphone photography option currently according to the website’s methods.

Huawei P60 Pro brings wide HDR, but suffers from artifacts

As the design itself suggests, given the similarity of the format of the rear lenses with a camera itself when the device is positioned horizontally, the set of sensors is one of the biggest highlights of the Huawei P60 Pro.

There are three in total, led by the main 48 MP sensor with RYYB (red, yellow, yellow and blue) subpixels instead of RGB (red, green and blue) to capture more light, autofocus, optical stabilization (OIS) and aperture Variable ranging from f/1.4 (more light reaches the camera) to f/4.0 (less light). There is also a 13 MP ultrawide lens with f / 2.2 aperture and autofocus, as well as a 48 MP telephoto lens with f / 2.1 aperture, OIS and 3.5x optical zoom.

According to DXOMARK, the P60 Pro has numerous positive points: the dynamic range (HDR) is wide in portraits and landscape captures, presenting good contrast in all light conditions; colors are nice and vivid, both in photos and videos, regardless of lighting; autofocus is fast and accurate in photo mode; depth of field keeps faces sharp in group shots, even from a distance; there is a good level of detail and controlled noise; and the blur effect is accurate and pleasing in portraits.

As usual, despite the excellent performance, the model is not perfect. Among the faults are the incorrect skin tones in low light recordings; the presence of unnatural details in more difficult conditions; focus jitter during transitions in videos; and multiple image artifacts, such as highlight flare, color quantization, and ringing around objects.

Huawei P60 Pro: DXOMARK camera leader

According to DXOMARK, with one of the best image qualities in its class, and recordings that have improved dramatically compared to the previous generation, the Huawei P60 Pro takes over the top of the camera rankings, thanks to an innovative combination of hardware and software. The variable aperture is one of the biggest highlights, as it is virtually unique in the industry by offering more than two speeds (or stops, in technical parlance), as well as near-perfect HDR and robust post-processing algorithms.

Even macro shots, which generally receive less attention from manufacturers, have great quality, by intelligently selecting which lens should be used — telephoto or ultrawide — depending on the required focal length. The model isn’t perfect, and has some notable flaws, including a large amount of artifacts and incorrect skin tones in low-light videos, but it’s still pretty consistent and provides an extremely robust experience.

The Huawei P60 Pro is already on sale in Europe, priced between €1,199 (~R$6,550) and €1,399 (~R$7,643). The novelty should not be brought to Brazil, considering that the giant has focused on making wearable accessories available in the Brazilian market. The phone can be imported, but it is important to remember that there is no access to Google services due to US sanctions.
