The basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo, star of the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), announced this Thursday his resignation from the Greece team two weeks before the start of the 2023 Basketball World Cup in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
In a statement shared on his X social network account (formerly Twitter), the two-time NBA MVP He assured his “passion and love” for the Greek team “has not changed and will never change”but he said he did not feel “ready to compete at the level I need to participate in the World Cup.”
“This was not an election. but my only option to make sure I get back to the level of basketball I’ve worked so hard for so far in my career.. I am extremely disappointed, but it was a decision made with the medical staff, ”explained“ The Greek Freak ”in his extensive statement.
Antetokounmpo has been shining in American basketball for at least ten years, but his goal of leading his team has not been achieved. The Greek will be able to try it in the Olympic Games in Paris, although Greece has not yet qualified
“I will continue to push myself to be ready for the next time they call me. My personal goal and our ultimate team goal is to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. and it will be an honor to represent my national team next year,” Antetokounmpo wrote.
