British Alan Findlay, 56, regained his self-esteem after undergoing a procedure that transformed his face. For four years he has been suffering from complications of rhinophyma, a rare disease characterized by the accumulation of mass or lumps in the nose, which prevented him from leaving the house for fear of judgmental eyes.

This was Findlay’s first Christmas after the facial transformation. Last year, he preferred to spend the date alone at home while his family gathered.

“I isolated myself, I was depressed last Christmas. I knew I looked terrible because people mentioned it. My social life got bad, I wasn’t going out much, I didn’t feel confident. In my head, I felt like I was a bit like the elephant man,” she recalls.

Rhinophyma

The Briton has suffered his entire life from rosacea, a condition that causes red skin and small bumps. In 2018, the problem began to evolve into rhinophyma.

The masses or lumps characteristic of the disease usually grow slowly, but when they reach a large volume they can cause nasal obstruction and discomfort in patients, who may be uncomfortable with the aesthetic appearance caused by the swelling.

Findlay noticed the sudden appearance of small wrinkles on his nose in 2018. The problem worsened during the Covid-19 pandemic, but was not treated properly due to health system restrictions.

Transformation

The British man was convinced by his wife, Rowan, to look for a private clinic. Findlay underwent a two-session surgical CO2 laser treatment due to the complexity of the condition. The first took place in March of this year, and the second in May, lasting approximately five hours.

“This case was easily the most advanced rhinophyma we’ve ever seen and we weren’t sure we would be able to treat it to a level that we were satisfied with. But after listening to the story of the patient, who had not left the house for a few years, we knew that we definitely had to give it a try.” Ever Clinicresponsible for the transformation of Findlay, on social networks.

They shared before and after pictures of the patient just two months after the procedure.

Self esteem

“While the difference in the patient’s nose is like night and day, the real difference is in their confidence and invigorated zest for life – something we are delighted to have helped with,” the doctors said.

After seeing the final result, Findlay said he felt “reintroduced to the human race again”. “When you compare the before and after, it’s absolutely life changing for me,” he says.
