MMore than 40 personalities will be gathered at the 4th edition of Oeiras Ignição Gerador, the main summit (summit) dedicated to Culture in Portugal, between the 17th and 20th of May.
According to a note from the Municipality of Oeiras, the event takes place in the historic center of the village, to address the future of Culture, Creativity and Artificial Intelligence in a rapidly changing world.
The event, organized by Gerador – an independent Portuguese platform for journalism, culture and education – with the support of the Municipality of Oeiras, has the theme ‘On the Brink of an Unknown Future’ and aims to promote debate on the role of culture and creativity in a transforming world.
“When, three years ago and in the midst of a pandemic, we created with the Oeiras City Council the summit that brings together the artistic and creative community annually, we were far from imagining how decisive this year’s edition would be. The uncertainty of the future, with the the rise of new political orders, technological revolutions and environmental disruption can transform culture and society. This year’s Oeiras Ignição Generador seeks answers to these issues”says the president of Gerador, Tiago Sigorelho, and one of the speakers at the event.
During the four days of the event, the Eunice Muñoz Municipal Auditorium, the Verney Gallery and the Oeiras Market will receive prominent personalities in the areas of Culture, Philosophy, Science, Social Sector and Research, such as maestro Martim Sousa Tavares, philosopher Clóvis de Barro Filho, former minister Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, economist Susana Peralta and award-winning chemist Nuno Maulide, among others.
On the 18th of May, Oeiras Ignição Gerador presents the 2023 Culture Barometer, a partnership between Gerador and Qmetrics. This is the only regular study in the country that assesses the population’s perception of cultural consumption, offering practical data that support the cultural community and political and business decision-makers in the creation and development of strategies.
This year, the note also states, the Oeiras Ignição Generador also presents the Cabin of the Future, an idea that results from a request from Generator to ChatGPT to create an initiative involving the Festival community.
“At Cabine do Futuro, participants will be able to record a 1-minute video, to be broadcast at the Festival, about the role of Culture and creativity in an uncertain future”, it can be read.
The initiative will be installed in Largo 5 de Outubro, in the historic center of Oeiras, from 15 to 19 May, from 1 pm to 3 pm and from 4.30 pm to 7 pm, and on May 20, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm.
In addition to conversations, individual presentations, workshops, networking initiatives and thematic meetings, the program also includes a Creativity Fair, musical showcases, street dance performances and concerts by artists such as B Fachada, Celina da Piedade and Ana Santos, between others.
