After the 35-year-old let loose a few more jabs at the organizers in his opening monologue, he ended his speech forgivingly: “Regardless of the history of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, this is a night to celebrate. And I think this industry deserves evenings like this. And I’m glad you’re all here. And I hope you have a great time tonight!”

The Golden Globes honor the best cinema productions and television shows of the year. The award ceremony is considered trend-setting for the Oscars.

The winners

▶︎ Cate Blanchett (53) became as best drama actress Awarded – for her leading role in the film “Tár”. With the native Australian were, among others, Viola Davis (“The Woman King”), Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”) nominated.

▶︎ Austin Butler (31) won the Golden Globe as best drama actor won. The California native scooped the award for his starring role as “Elvis” in the Baz Luhrmann biopic. Butler’s cast included Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”), Hugh Jackman (“The Son”) and Bill Nighy (“Living”).

▶︎ Michelle Yeoh (60) won the Golden Globe as Lead Actress in a Comedy/Musical won. The Malaysian-born actress convinced with her role in the sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once – and put it against the Australian, among others Margot Robbie (“Babylon”) and British actress Emma Thompson (“Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”).

▶︎ Colin Farell (46) has the distinction of being Lead Actor in a Comedy/Musical won. The Irish actor convinced with his role in the tragic comedy “The Banshees of Inisherin” about a broken male friendship by director Martin McDonagh. With Farrell, the Mexican Diego Calva (“Babylon”) and the Brit Daniel Craig (“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”) were nominated, among others.

Angela Basset (64) has the price as the best supporting actress won. The US actress convinced with her role in the Marvel hit “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. Among her nominees were Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and Carey Mulligan (“She Said”).

▶︎ US actor Ke Huy Quan (51) won the Golden Globe for his role in the sci-fi comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once best supporting actor won. He prevailed against Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) and Brad Pitt (“Babylon”), among others.
