One of the most popular characters among fans of The Walking Dead does not appear in the comics from which the series, available on Netflix, is adapted. Amazing information when we know that he is one of the emblematic heroes of fiction.
If he was at the center of the series during its eleven seasons, one of the most beloved characters of The Walking Dead, available in full on the Netflix streaming platform, never appears in the Robert Kirkman comics from which it is adapted. The series tells the story of a group of people fighting for survival in a post-apocalyptic world infested with zombies. The original comics of The Walking Dead feature some of the series’ iconic characters like Rick Grimes, Carl Grimes, Michonne and many other survivors, but others created especially for the small screen. Daryl Dixon – played by Norman Reedus – does not appear, however, in the original comics. The character of Daryl was specially imagined for the series but that didn’t stop Norman Reedus from becoming one of the most iconic faces of the franchise thanks to his memorable interpretation of this tough guy.

Initially, Norman Reedus had auditioned for another role of The Walking Dead, that of Merle Dixon, Daryl’s older brother, played in the series by Michael Rooker. Merle doesn’t appear in the comics either, he was created exclusively for the series too. At the time of his audition, the role of Daryl therefore did not exist. “They gave me an audition, but I read Merle’s lines. I had already been told that Michael Rooker was supposed to play this role, so I thought maybe he couldn’t do it or that he had said no for one reason or another.”explained Norman Reedus to the American magazine Hollywood Reporter. He then received a call to try again, but with different lines. After leaving the audition, the actor received a call informing him that a new role had been created for him.

“I did a cartwheel in Chinatown!”explained the actor, before adding: “It was a dream. I didn’t know how long I was going to last or if it was just for one episode. Instead, Daryl Dixon became one of the series’ most popular characters and a true pillar of the universe and franchise The Walking Dead.
