The French President Emmanuel Macron called to toughen laws to expedite the return of illegal immigrants to their country of origin. Macron also wished accelerate the integration and organization of foreign workers in stressful professions, as well as to improve their integration.
These decisions come after the announcement of the new law on immigration in France. Members of the French parliament began discussing the bill in March, which aims to regularize the status of illegal residents for three years or more. In fact, the law aims to allocate workers in sectors suffering from a labor shortage, a one-year special residence.

The law will also speed up the examination of asylum seekers’ files, while intensifying the expulsion of illegal aliens.
It should be noted that French law prohibits the employment of workers without a residence permit and allows employers to recruit workers without residence for a limited period if they cannot find qualified candidates.
The number of immigrants on the rise in France
A report from the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee) had recently been released. It highlighted the figures for immigration in France by establishing a broad panorama of immigration in the country.
The number of immigrants in France has started to climb again following the Coronavirus pandemic according to the report. Algerian immigrants represent 12,7% of the immigrant population in France.

The events of 2020 had led to the closing of borders and the reduction of the granting of visas for foreigners, slowing down the migratory flow. The country now has more than 7 million immigrants.
In 2021, 10% of the French population were immigrants. The same report dissects and specifies the places of origin of the latter. 47.5% were born in Africa, 31.1% come from Europe, 13.6% from Asia and 5.8% from America and Oceania.
