Sergio Massa, a key ally for the Kirchnerist crusade against the court / web

What even for the ruling party itself was a mystery ended up being cleared up yesterday: the three deputies who answer to the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, and make up the Political Trial Commission will accompany the request for impeachment against the Supreme Court promoted by the president, Alberto Fernandez.

They are Ramiro Gutiérrez, Micaela Morán –who took office only three months ago to replace Victoria Tolosa Paz- and Vanesa Massetani.

Ramírez had even submitted his resignation to the commission (due to a trip that he said he had planned), but finally decided to suspend it and withdraw his resignation to be part of the debate, which will start in a few days.

While Massetani would not continue in the body due to a family problem, so the ruling party would replace her with another member.

Beyond this personal inconvenience, “the representatives of the Renewal Front in the Political Judgment Commission are not going to get off and they are going to give the debate,” they revealed sources that report to the Minister of Economy in the Lower House and clarified: “We are part of a political space. The request for prosecution will generate a strong debate, we will have to see if it is feasible, but our position is that the actions of some sectors of the Justice aggravate democracy. We want to give an open discussion to society because we see that there is an attack on the balance of the three powers of the State”, said the massista Carlos Selva, in line with the discourse of the ruling party.

Up to now, there were doubts about the behavior of the “renewal” troop in the Political Judgment Commission, as a result of the suggestive silence that Sergio Massa chose since President Fernández announced his attack against the four ministers of the Supreme Court.

Furthermore, suspicions grew when one of the governors closest to the head of the Palace of Finance, Mariano Arcioni from Chubut, along with a group of PJ leaders, refrained from accompanying the advance led by the head of state. That triggered all the alarms among the pro-government deputies and forced the massismo to clarify that it will join the Kirchnerist ranks accompanying the request for impeachment against the members of the Court.

Even when the governing coalition discounts that, a priori, they will lose the battle in Congress due to lack of votes. In fact, that is one of the reasons why the government prefers to keep Massa “on the sidelines” of the legislative debate. Because although his legislators will support the crusade against the highest court, “there is a political decision by everyone in the space not to wear it down, not to stain it, not to make it play battles that are lost”, they recognized yesterday close to the Minister of Economy .

The request for prosecution against the Court would enter the Deputies next week, together with the decree to call extraordinary sessions of Congress.

In its accusation, the Government will seek to emphasize the alleged poor performance of the Court with a focus on two axes: the recent ruling that ordered the return of co-participation funds to the city of Buenos Aires and the decision to take control of the Council of the Magistracy appealing to a repealed law. In part, the ruling party will base its accusations on the leaking of chats between Silvio Robles (right hand of the president of the Court, Horacio Rosatti) with officials and leaders of Pro.

The opposition has already anticipated that it will not support the initiative. This was warned by Juan López, vice president of the Impeachment Committee and head of the Civic Coalition bloc. “Together for Change is not going to support this attack on the Court or any other law until this stops.”
