Tesla continues to lower prices around the world
Earlier this year, Tesla has reduced the price of all versions of the Model 3 and Model Y in China from 6 to 13.5%, which did not fail to react to the new owners of its electric cars. This is the second price drop in less than three months, in the face of an unstoppable 72% drop in the stock market. Nevertheless, despite these figures, Elon Musk’s company still saw growth in production and sales at the end of 2022even if it was not enough to meet the objectives set.
Pursuing this price reduction strategy, the Model 3 and the Model Y do the same in France. Both models have considerably reduced their final invoice, and as proof, the basic version of the Model 3 suffered a reduction of more than 8,000 (€53,490 to €44,990). As for the Model Y, it loses 3,000 euros and is now displayed at 46,990 euros. And this price difference is even more visible when you go upmarket. Importantly, the least expensive model of the brand will therefore be able to benefit from the ecological bonus, awarded below a purchase price of 47,000 euros.
What are the reasons for these price cuts at Tesla?
Grace Tao, vice president of Tesla, justified lower prices in China by “the government’s call to promote economic development and encourage consumption”. She also claimed that “Tesla’s price adjustments are supported by countless technical innovations”. The reality, at least in China, is that deliveries have hit their lowest level in five months, not to mention that Beijing has ended its subsidy program for electric cars. To stimulate demand, Tesla has decided to lower the final bill in China, and therefore now in Europe.

The Grande Autonomie version now costs 52,990 euros, while the Performance version drops below 60,000 euros. For the Model Y, the basic version drops to €46,990. On the other hand, if we talk about the Great Autonomy, it goes from 64,990 euros to 53,990 euros, which is one of the biggest reductions in the history of Tesla.
After a price drop of almost 10,000 euros on certain models, it is inevitable to wonder with what margin Tesla has worked, and to what extent the investments at the level of the Gigafactory can influence, in such proportions, the final invoice. . Anyway, this reduction which allows access to a Model 3 for a little more than 44,000 euros could constitute an important incentive to purchase for the beginning of the year 2023..
