Infarmed ordered the suspension of the sale and withdrawal from the market of cosmetic products by the L’Oréal brand that contain an ingredient that has been banned since March 2022, reads an information published by the organization.

According to an informative circular published on the official website of Infarmed – Autoridade Nacional do Medicamentos e Produtos de Saúde, the organization “in the scope of a market inspection action, verified the existence in the national market of cosmetic products distributed by the company L’Oréal Portugal, Unipessoal Ltd. which contained in their composition the Butylphenyl methylpropional ingredient”.

“Although L’Oréal Portugal, Unipessoal, Lda. having informed INFARMED, IP of the measures for the collection and withdrawal from the national market of cosmetic products that contained the ingredient Butylphenyl methylpropional in their composition, from the analysis of the information made available to date, it appears that the said company failed to demonstrate collection in full of the national market of non-compliant cosmetic products”, advances the circular.

The drug’s regulatory authority mentions in the communication that the brand “proved to INFARMED, IP that it made the change/timely reformulation of cosmetic products so as not to contain in their composition the ingredient “banned in cosmetics since March 1, 2022, however, “the entities that may still have these products cannot make them available”.

Infarmed also asks traders who still have products with this ingredient to contact the brand and underlines that “consumers who still have these products should not use them”.
