The Consumer Price Index (IPC-Cost of Living) rose 8.4% in April, driven by the Food and Beverage items, along with Clothing and Footwear, the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported today.

Thus, retail inflation reached 32% in the first four months of the year and 108.8% in the last 12 months.

The items with the greatest increase during the month were Clothing and footwear, with 10.8% explained “by seasonal changes”, detailed INDEC, along with Food and non-alcoholic beverages, with a 10.1% increase, “due to the increases in Vegetables, tubers and legumes; Milk, milk products and eggs; Sugar, sweets, chocolates, sweets”, among others.

There were also notable increases of 9.9% in Restaurants and hotels, 8.6% for Home equipment and maintenance.

The 10.1% increase in Food and beverages “was the one that had the greatest impact in all regions,” explained the statistical agency

The two divisions with the lowest variation in April were Education, with 5%; and Alcoholic beverages and tobacco 3.8%.

At the category level, Seasonal led the increase with 12.6%; followed by the IPC Núcleo, with 8.4%; while the Regulated registered an increase of 4.9%.
