Inflation in the City of Buenos Aires accelerated again in April and climbed to 7.8%, driven by increases in food -above 10%-, clothing and telecommunications as the main items, according to the General Directorate of Statistics of the Government of the City.

In March, the Buenos Aires price index had reached 7.1%. Meanwhile, the national data was 7.7% for last March according to INDEC and economists expect the price index to reach 7.5% in April according to the Survey of Market Expectations published by the BCRA.

“Food and non-alcoholic beverages averaged a rise of 10.4%, contributing 1.88 percentage points to the monthly variation of the IPCBA,” says the report from the official Buenos Aires statistics center.

The increase in the food industry was explained by meat and derivatives (11.5%) and vegetables (19.9%). To a lesser extent, the increases in milk, milk products and eggs (10.8%) and bread and cereals (8.5%) stood out.

On the other hand, the headings of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased 6.4%. The increases in rental prices explained the impact, according to the Department of Statistics, followed by the increases in electricity service rates.

While, Restaurants and hotels averaged an increase of 8.2% and had an impact of 0.93 pp, as a result of increases in the prices of food prepared in restaurants, bars and eating houses.

For his part, Transport registered a rise of 8.1% and had an impact of 0.81 pp, due to the increases in the values ​​of air tickets, fuel and lubricants for vehicles for home use and automobiles. Home equipment and maintenance increased 9.3%with an incidence of 0.58 pp, due to the impact of the adjustments in the remuneration of domestic service personnel.

Home appliances showed jumps above 9%. The Clothing and footwear sector averaged a rise of 9.4%, and had an impact of 0.54 pp, as a result of the seasonal behavior of the division. The rest of the divisions had a positive impact, albeit less, on the General Level.
