An 83-year-old man from Rankweil was the victim of serious internet fraud.

An 83-year-old man from Rankweil received an e-mail from an alleged Sparkasse employee on Monday asking him to download the latest version of the “s Identity App Version 2.02”. After the pensioner had complied with this request, he was asked in a separate window to provide his personal data. The 83-year-old then received a call from the alleged Sparkasse employee.

This asked him to transfer all the money to another account due to an innovation. He only has to confirm the ready-made transaction and then cancel it again. The 83-year-old complied with this request not only via his own account, but also that of his wife and that of his son. A total of 56,995 euros was transferred to the previously unknown perpetrators.

Another case of daughter/son scam: 3255 euros damage

A 65-year-old woman from Satteins was also the victim of an internet scammer. In this case, it was again the daughter/son scam via Whatsapp, which is currently occurring more and more frequently. The 65-year-old received a text from her alleged daughter saying she had lost her cell phone and had to use a different phone number to get in touch.

The message also asked the later victim to transfer EUR 3,255 to a Spanish account. The woman wanted to help her daughter and tried to transfer the money to the appropriate account. Since this did not work, she asked her son to lay out the money for his “sister”. He complied with his mother’s request and lost money in the amount of the said sum to the previously unknown perpetrators.
