Samsung is one of the most regular brands in the tablet market and updates its portfolio with new products of the type every year. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE, however, is a model launched more than two years ago, in 2021, but it is still very sought after, either for its specifications or for its more “affordable” price in relation to the new tops of the line.

But is he still worth it in 2023? The model drew a lot of attention, at the time of its launch, for its greater cost-effectiveness among the flagships of the year and has hardware that, in theory, still does the job.

However, does it make sense to buy it today, especially considering that so many other models were released after it, such as the new version of the Tab S6 Lite and the complete Galaxy Tab S8 line? Here, I help you remember a little of its characteristics, in order to understand if it still makes sense today.

Top of the line design and construction

As it is a model with the proposal of having premium features, but being more accessible, Samsung had to make some cost cuts in the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, but this, without a doubt, was not done in the construction of the device.

After all, it has the same structure as the entire Tab S7 and Tab S8 line, that is, an all-metal finish on the sides and back. This shows that, despite being more affordable, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE still has the premium design of its more expensive siblings.

The edges are also flat, with a very discreet rounding, following the visual identity seen until today. This ensures that it offers a more comfortable footprint, despite the high weight due to the metal construction.

The only point where it starts to lose its flagship look a little is its 12.4-inch screen. Instead of the LTPS panel seen on higher-end models, it has a TFT display. As we saw in your review, this gives a more yellowish tone to the display, but does not compromise its use.

Intermediate but still competent hardware

The main reduction in expenses of the Galaxy Tab S7 FE in relation to the most complete models of the line happened with the chipset. Instead of the Snapdragon 865 Plus, which was the top of the line that year, the tablet is equipped with the Snapdragon 750G — a high-performance intermediate.

In practice, this results in a significant loss in performance, especially if you’re looking for a device to use a lot with editing apps or even to enjoy heavier games. Not that he doesn’t realize it, but he might have a little more difficulty and present a little gagging.

In day-to-day life, however, the S7 FE still gets the job done, and if you want a tablet for more common use, it will do just fine.

Other than that, the device brings a combination of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage, very interesting settings for a tablet, which allow you to perform a lot of activities in multi-tasking or in the background.

general usability

In terms of general usability, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE is almost like any other tablet from Samsung, with just a few minor differences. With it, for example, you will have all the integration within the South Korean ecosystem – as long as you have other devices, such as a cell phone, watch, headphones or branded notebook.

The integration between tablet and cell phone, for example, allows you to copy and paste a file from one to the other instantly. Another possibility is to use the cellular network as a router for the tablet when away from home. All of this is already configured natively, and you don’t need to activate anything: it’s enough that both devices have the same Samsung account.

The main difference in usability, however, is compared to the S Pen stylus. Although it is already included in the kit, it is a little simpler than the latest versions and does not allow you to perform some specific functions, such as using it with gestures for the tablet. Still, it is a great companion for drawing or editing work, for example, as it offers more precise control over the screen.

Another point that can be quite annoying is that, unlike other models in the line, and even more recent ones, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE does not have a fingerprint sensor, so it is not possible to unlock it by biometrics or use technology for authentication. in banking apps, for example.

long lasting battery

This is an aspect that weighs heavily in favor of the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, especially if you compare it with other Samsung tablets. With a 10,090 mAh battery, it has a capacity greater than the “common” Tab S7 and Tab S8, getting closer to the Plus versions.

In practice, it can easily handle a day of use if you work all day with it. If you use it more regularly or moderately, it can last for two days. Of course, this depends a lot on how many hours you spend with the tablet daily, but it’s already a great average.

Charging is also effective, although not as fast. With a power of 45 W, it can have its load completely supplied in a more agile way.

camera set

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE’s camera array is basic, but offers exactly what you need for video calls or the more occasional photograph. After all, that’s exactly what you’ll be using it for most of the time.

It has an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera, which is positioned on the larger edge of the tablet — a strategic position to favor apps like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, for example.

The difference between it and more “complete” models — once again comparing the Tab S7 and Tab S8 — is that they have a double rear camera: one with an 8 MP + 6 MP configuration and the other with 8 MP + 5 MP.

For video recording, all of them, including the S7 FE, shoot at a maximum of 4K at 30fps with the rear. Only the Tab S8 shoots in 4K at 30 fps with the front camera.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE still worth it?

The Galaxy Tab S7 FE is still a great tablet in 2023. With an intermediate high-performance chip, the Snapdragon 750G, it manages to perform day-to-day tasks well, so if you are looking for a complete, functional and performing device acceptable, it is a great option.

Its usability and integration with other devices also makes it great for those who work with multiple devices. But at this point, it’s important to point out that you need other Samsung devices to take advantage of the brand’s ecosystem.

The construction is also very premium, and it has the same structure as the most advanced flagships, such as the Tab S8 and S8 Plus. It only loses a little in the quality of the screen, but it is not something critical.

Regarding the price, it is around USD 1,000 cheaper than the Galaxy Tab S8 5G. So if you want to save a little money and don’t care so much about raw performance, the S7 FE is a good choice. If those thousand reais do not make a difference, however, it is more valid to bet on the most recent model, which delivers a more functional S Pen, more powerful hardware and, to boot, has support for the new generation mobile network.
