Juarez City.– The State Government undertook to require concessionaires to renew the public transport fleet so that it is updated each year to the model contemplated by state regulations, with a maximum of 10 years old.

This was one of the commitments reached in the meeting last week between state authorities and service concessionaires, in which the new rate of 12 pesos was also defined.

“There are agreements that we as a citizens’ council want to be fulfilled. We are concerned that there will be an increase without improving the quality of service or units. Of the commitments that were reached, the state government will demand that the renewal of the fleet be fulfilled so that it is updated to the model year as established by the regulations,” said the president of the Ciudad Juárez Mobility Council, Javier Venegas Guerrero.

Among the agreements obtained are holding Advisory Council meetings every three months; also the construction of a fixed formula to update the rate each year, “is something that we are asking for: that it be a calculation that we can all know so that when the rate increases are given, it is not thought that it is to benefit some group, let the mathematics give it”, he explained.

Likewise, it seeks to guarantee spaces for people with disabilities within the units, although it was only agreed that at least 20 percent of the units would have this type of space.

The meeting contemplated the launch of a mobile application so that the user knows the location of each route and a panic button for emergencies. “It is a commitment so that users know which routes are available in real time and locate any emergency reports,” said Venegas Guerrero.

In addition, the creation of a body in charge of supervising the BRT system was put on the table this year; the updating of the fleet, optimization of the frequencies of passage and the reach to colonies far from the city.

“We are looking for them to ensure the creation of the body and that they follow it up to maintain the infrastructure and that what happened with BRT-1 does not happen,” he said.

Last Wednesday, the official rate of the Urban Collective Public Transport Service in all the municipalities of the state was published in the Official State Newspaper. The document explains that after studying and assessing the Undersecretariat of Transport and the Advisory Council, it has been estimated that the update of the rate for the Urban Collective Public Passenger Transport service will be established at 12 pesos throughout the federal entity.
