The managing sole owner has sold the company to a Swiss printing technology company and thus to a globally active Italian group of companies.

By Günther Bitschnau (wpa)

The previous sole owner and managing director confirmed the complete sale. The name of the company and the headquarters in Lustenau will remain unchanged.

More than 8,000 employees

The digital printing solution provider AMACO GmbH in Lustenau got a new sole owner towards the end of 2022. It is the printing technology company HAPA AG in Volketswil in the Swiss canton of Zurich. This was the result of wpa research.

HAPA is a subsidiary of the internationally active and multi-billion dollar Coesia group based in the Italian city of Bologna. The group, which is active in the field of industrial and packaging solutions, employs more than 8,000 people and operates 86 production plants in 35 countries worldwide. The group includes more than 20 different companies.

Name and location remain the same

The previous AMACO sole owner and managing director Matthias Klaudrat (born 1973) confirmed the complete sale to HAPA or Coesia when asked by wpa. The name of the company and the headquarters in Lustenau will remain unchanged. There are also no changes for the 14 employees. Klaudrat himself will also leave AMACO as managing director after the first half of 2023 and will then only have an advisory function.

Medical device manufacturers as customers

AMACO specializes in the development and manufacture of digital printing machines including accessories, maintenance, service and software. Customers include the manufacturers of so-called “medical devices”. These include, for example, disposable medical products such as catheters. With the solutions from AMACO, the packaging of these medical products is digitally labeled by the manufacturer.

Klaudrat justifies the sale with the fact that AMACO can massively promote international growth by belonging to this globally active group. You reach a completely new level in the international presence within this industry. AMACO is already active almost exclusively abroad. The export share is around 98 percent. “We are the market leader in this niche in Europe,” says Klaudrat. The other Coesia subsidiary HAPA focuses on a fairly similar area, but for customers in the pharmaceutical industry. This would ideally complement HAPA and AMACO in the portfolio.

AMACO was founded in 1982 by Josef Vonach. In 2016 Matthias Klaudrat took over the majority of the company shares, in 2018 the complete takeover took place. AMACO currently has more than 1,700 customers and partners and over 2,100 systems in operation in 97 countries worldwide.
