The 53-year-old Canadian actor will play Ryan Martin, a Los Angeles policeman who came to investigate a murder that occurred on the sidelines of the legendary 24-hour race at Le Mans, which celebrates its centenary this year.
This role immediately seduced the actor passionate about motorsport and former racing driver, but he nevertheless assures, in the columns of the newspaper The Parisianhaving been more attracted by the “challenge” of filming in French than by the script of Death on the trail.
“It’s a challenge to play in a language other than mine, and I wanted to take it up. The subject of the film, of course, appealed to me, which was important. But what interested me the most, it was to shoot in France”, affirms the actor.
“It was another job for me”
If he never had the opportunity to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, this role in Death on the trail also allows Jason Priestley to dive back into his racing career, interrupted due to a serious accident in August 2002.
“I started racing at 21 and well into my 30s. It was another job for me. I won a few races, raced with great men and women…I have no regrets about my career as a runner”, he told the “Parisien”.
The choice of the American actor to play Ryan Martin was therefore obvious for the film’s producer, Jean-Baptiste Neyrac and his brother Didier Neyrac, co-screenwriter and cameraman for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“From the first synopsis, my brother included a character of a former American pilot who participates in the investigation. So we looked for someone who raced and the name of Jason Priestley came out very quickly,” says Jean-Baptiste Neyrac at TV Star.
Jason Priestley rose to prominence in the 1990s thanks to his role as Brandon Walsh, twin brother of Brenda (Shannen Doherty) in the American series Beverly Hills 90210. The Canadian actor has also appeared in many movies, TV movies and TV series such as How I met your mother, FBI: Missing in Action or The Experts. He was finally the hero of the Canadian series Private Eyesbroadcast on TF1.
