The objective set by the President of the Republic this Monday evening is “untenable”, according to many emergency doctors. They point to several current problems such as the lack of generalists.

“Decongest” emergency services by the end of next year. This is the promise made by Emmanuel Macron, who spoke to the French on Monday evening, during a televised address.

According to the president, it is a question of “deeply rebuilding the health system” and more broadly of “progress for better living”, one of the three projects that he has set with those of work, as well as order and Justice.

“Impossible”

But the course set by the Head of State does not convince the main concerned. It is certainly ambitious, but above all untenable according to many emergency physicians.

“20 months to go back on 20 to 30 years of inconsistency for the public service and the emergencies, it is impossible”, slice Patrick Pelloux, president of the emergency physicians of France.

The practitioner thus underlines two problems: that of the “downstream beds for emergencies” and that of the “public hospital”. Failing to act on these subjects, “we will not succeed”, he warns. Because to solve the problem of overcrowding in the emergency room, doctors believe that it is necessary to proceed step by step. One of the main projects: to have more generalists.

“We are in a context of galloping desertification in terms of city medicine”, points out Jean-Paul Hamon, president of the Federation of Doctors of France.

And to regret “conventional negotiations” which resulted in “no attractiveness for city medicine”, yet plagued by “desertification”. In summary, the equation is simple: according to the doctors interviewed, the government will have to go against what has been done so far to succeed in its bet.
